Autumn brides marrying this year,  I am certain you and your planner have all your wedding plans in order. However, late fall brides, I am confident that your floral designer has not ordered your wedding flowers as yet, and if you are in need of inspiration then you have come to the right place! When you are thinking of the details of your wedding, look to nature to give you design cues. Fall is the season of vibrant colors. Use that to your advantage. If you are getting married next fall, here are a few of my design tips for you to consider when creating your wedding day:

  • Fruits like figs are an event stylists dream! They are sumptuous in color, texture, and are available from August to October. Add this to your menu via appetizers during cocktail hour or to adorn your wedding cake.
  • The falling leaves that are abundant this time of year so use them throughout your fall wedding theme. Add them to your bouquet, floral crown, table setting, or a backdrop.
  • The temperatures are still tolerable for an outdoor ceremony. Look for locations with trees. They are perfect for photos and are a beautiful backdrop.
  • Even though the weather is still comfortable, there could be a chill in the air depending on the hour of your ceremony. Providing shawls and a hot drink, prior to the ceremony, like apple cider with cinnamon sticks {place these on the side for those who may not like the flavor of cinnamon} are great to warm up the hands and the body.
  • If you love velvet, this is the season for it! Oh, I just love the accent of a well-placed accent of velvet and not just for the bridal bouquet. Have your floral designer use the same velvet ribbon used for your bouquet on your groom’s boutonniere for a subtle richness.
  • For the cocktail hour, serve some comfort food. Mini grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup is perfect for a fall wedding cocktail hour!
