At first I had no idea where to start as SBB is chock-full of incredible South African venues, from the breathtaking winelands to the heart of the bushveld. In fact, in the last two months I’ve been to four beautiful weddings around the country, so I’ve experienced it all first hand! Then I realized that the one truly South African wedding I’ve never been to is a proper sand-between-your-toes beach wedding. We have many very lovely oceanside venues, but I’d be particularly thrilled to get an invite to Strandkombuis (Afrikaans for ‘beach kitchen’), on the West Coast.

The great thing about Strandkombuis is that it combines a boho beach atmosphere with classy rustic styling. Ceremonies usually take place on their pristine stretch of private white sand, with waves crashing beside you and the sea breeze on your face. Then it’s up the dunes to the restaurant itself, where your guests sit at long wooden tables and enjoy a banquet of gorgeous South African seafood fresh from the braai (BBQ) before dancing the night away under a blanket of stars. Sounds pretty near perfect to me.
