Today’s Real Wedding is an At First Blush & Co. wedding. This lovely union took place this spring at the Museum of Contemporary Arts in La Jolla, California. The couple wanted to incorporate their love of literature to create a modern romantic theme for their wedding day. The museum’s open space and view of the ocean was the perfect backdrop for K & E’s wedding. Anemones with black centers were chosen to complement the modern black, white, and charcoal palette. Pops of yellow were added naturally with craspedias AKA “Billy Balls”. Gorgeous white fringed tulips were used for their romantic qualities and texture. To further personalize the wedding we used scientific beakers as vases that gave a nod to the groom’s occupation as an RNA scientist. Sharon Mintz of Organic Elements created the perfect boutonniere for the groom to resemble a DNA strand. Gorgeous cherry blossom branches in urns placed on stands framed the designated ceremony area.
For the personal florals Blush Botanicals created small bouquets made of white monochromatic florals for each bridesmaid. They fashioned the bride’s bouquet with textured ivory garden roses to match the beautiful floral like design of her mermaid style wedding dress. Her bouquet was then finished with a black ribbon. For the maid of honor a hand tied bouquet was created from a mixture of the flowers used to design the bridesmaids bouquets. Vibrant pops of marigold was added with yellow tulips and “Billy balls” that matched the groomsmen’s boutonnieres.
During the cocktail hour guests were treated to two fun signature drinks; Moscow Mules and Sofia Cocktails. Both drinks hold special meaning for the bride and groom. As the sun began to set, it created the most amazing colors in the sky that perfectly complemented the blush tones of the Sofia Cocktail. The fiery sunset made this magical occasion even more so.
To soften the look of the glass and metal escort table I printed copies of free vintage papers found online, and glued them to muslin fabric to cause a cascading effect that draped the table and ended on the floor as scattered pages. Literary works from great authors were written on each escort card that corresponded with the books on the round and square reception tables.
Knowing that the bride loves sparklers, the groom surprised her with an end of the night sparkler send off. The perfect ending to a magical day.

So elegant and romantic!
Thank you so much! It truly was a lovely wedding!
Always envy couples who tie the knot at a museum. And your styling is just impeccably “contemporary chic”! (Love how the bridesmaids’ white bouquets are each slightly different!)
The catering arrangements with glass candles are very nice. All the photographs show the best experience of photographer. Hope to hire such photographer on my own wed.
It’s really a gorgeous wedding. And thanks for your informative post.
